Signs of completion!

For the first time since we started this project, I realized what was on the other side of this sign, our future home.

For months it has been "the project", "the house", "our dream". As we entered, we dutifully removed our shoes and looked around. No construction materials or debris, the place looked lovely.

Knowing that the final inspection would be a two step process, Jim set up the first one, knowing that by the time the deck rails were in place, he would be ready for the final. With any luck, we'll get it today or Monday!

The painters were doing a little touch-up as Dave finished the rails on the stairs.

Across the street, work is beginning on another building, a garage with studio on top I believe.

It was a lovely day to be at Camano. Jazz and I did a little beachcombing and found some good nuggets. Hers happened to be a bone  :)

Another way to see the house!

I've been  frustrated that an ordinary camera lens cannot capture the true inside of the house. So I got an app for my iPhone that goes just a little overboard. Its a 360 degree panorama program. (remember you can click on the pictures to enlarge them, if you dare!)

Punch List!

What an exciting day! As we walked through the house with Jim, we sensed the impending completion of our house. A year of planning and over a year of construction have gone by! We're so close to completion that Jim suggested we do a preliminary punch list, so he could address issues before the final cleaning.

Since we were here on Sunday, the driveway has been paved with a stamped border that has a "bottom of the ocean " feel.

The exterior has been painted except for a little trim.



The showers have doors.




The loo has a light; can you guess what / who may have inspired this?





And the appliances are going in

Next week the stairs go in and we'll get our first inspection!  If all goes perfectly well, we should be able to move in next month!

Tools of the trade

 While the finish carpenter was doing a masterful job on the stair treads,  Dave was pulling the clear adhesive off the windows. "This will let more light in," he chuckled.

Light has been at a premium in the Northwest for the past few months. I heard today that we had 41 days in a row where sun was not in the forecast. And we've already had our usual amount of April rain! We're all getting a little batty as a result, so today brought a welcome change.

I know I may be getting a little ahead of myself, but I truly think that within a month we'll be moving in! There are very few things left to do inside- finish the bamboo floors, a litle trim, a couple light fixtures, stair rail, mirrors, shower doors, and we're there!

On the outside we still need to get the back porch poured, paint the deck trim, install deck railings, and of course do the landscaping. I think the landscaping will have to wait until after we move in.





Jeff reminded me today that our work is just beginning. But what fun it will be to finally be here!







We haven't seen the house at night but Jim assures us that the inside spaces are very dramatic. I'm ready to bring my sleeping bag!

The Dobsons' visit to the Beach!

For months we have wanted to have our housemate Kate visit Camano on one of our weekend jaunts. This weekend proved to be the perfect opportunity. Kate's parents were visiting form Portland and there were some major developments, even since our last visit on Thursday.

Kate's sister, Sarah and brother-in- law, Jeff also came along. The smelt were running and the gulls were having a great time fishing in the shallows. Jeff and Kate's dad, Fred thoroughly enjoyed watching the activity from the upper deck, while I wandered around taking pictures and admiring all the work.



The built-ins are complete and the desk has been finished. I think we'll enjoy this office space.
