30 days and Counting!

kitchen

I know I may be getting a little ahead of myself, but I truly think that within a month we'll be moving in! There are very few things left to do inside- finish the bamboo floors, a litle trim, a couple light fixtures, stair rail, mirrors, shower doors, and we're there!

On the outside we still need to get the back porch poured, paint the deck trim, install deck railings, and of course do the landscaping. I think the landscaping will have to wait until after we move in.

Jeff reminded me today that our work is just beginning. But what fun it will be to finally be here!

We haven't seen the house at night but Jim assures us that the inside spaces are very dramatic. I'm ready to bring my sleeping bag!

The Dobsons' visit to the Beach!

For months we have wanted to have our housemate Kate visit Camano on one of our weekend jaunts. This weekend proved to be the perfect opportunity. Kate's parents were visiting form Portland and there were some major developments, even since our last visit on Thursday.

Kate's sister, Sarah and brother-in- law, Jeff also came along. The smelt were running and the gulls were having a great time fishing in the shallows. Jeff and Kate's dad, Fred thoroughly enjoyed watching the activity from the upper deck, while I wandered around taking pictures and admiring all the work.

The built-ins are complete and the desk has been finished. I think we'll enjoy this office space.

the Kable lights in the family room

the bench on the landing is a great place to rest-even without a cushion!

The ceiling fan in the master bedroom is fun to operate

The side entry is almost done too!

Self photo....
I always surprise myself when these come out!

The countertops are a hit!

We call the guest bathroom countertop "Amy's Nugget" collection. In the mix are just a few of the pieces of sea glass she has collected over the years, along with a few choice pieces of shells from our forays to our favorite beaches. The countertops are gorgeous, and the photos, although good, don't really show the beauty of this work.

The kitchen countertops are almost done and are looking fabulous! I can't wait to see the completed surface with the backsplash!

The master bath countertop is lovely as well, relaxing and understated by comparison.

My Oh My!

A beautiful day to drop in at the house. It had been a while since Barbara had seen it, so she came along as did Jazz.

We found a beehive of activity: Eric was doing the laminate for the desk and the laundry room. The tile is 99% done. What a job! It looks super.

Dave was putting on door hardware and finishing the trimwork. He is always here, always cheerful.

Team Wickstrom was installing lighting fixtures inside and out; oops, a problem with the order will mean we have to exchange a few things.

Gheorghe was working on the side porch listening to beautiful classical music - far from the usual fare at job sites!

He has done a very nice job on the decks.

I really like the fireplace surround.

The beach looks quite scoured,
with the exception of this enormous log!

Spring Forward !!

Things are coming together,

From Jim Hall, our contractor:

We finished the upper deck, framed the walls at the second floor entry overlook and fireplace at ceiling, installed SGD hardware and interior door handles. Eric will finish tile Tuesday while we put the sub tops on the laundry and desk counters. Wed the laminate counter go on and the drywall work will be done. Thursday we run baseboard downstairs and do a major cleanup. Friday the kitchen and vanity tops go in. Monday the back splash gets started. Tuesday and Wednesday the bamboo floor and stairs go down.

We'll post pictures this weekend!

As our niece Sophie used to say,  "I'm happy now!"

Sad? Mad? Not Glad......

It's hard to be upset when there is so much tragedy happening in Japan, so I'll be brief. Not much at all has happened at the house in the two weeks since our last visit. Apparently the countertops will be delayed due to the collapse of the roof at the company that makes the epoxy binder. So here we sit.

No pictures or happy posts until things get moving again.

Our dear daughter Amy reminded me this afternoon  not to fret too much about things I can't control.
